It’s a Gundam!

No good trip to Tokyo would be complete without a visit to Diver City to see the life sized Gundam standing there, in this case it’s still Unicorn and part of me still does miss the OG Gundam that used to stand here along with the previous Gundam Front attraction that was inside Diver City. It was also a shame to see the Gundam Cafe that used to be here closed as well, a Pandemic casualty.

Bandai is pushing the latest Gundam Series “The Witch from Mercury” incredibly hard, they even had Unicorn do a light show as if it were Aerial from the latest show. It was kinda odd seeing Unicorn doing Aerial things though… with the presence of its latest show, and seems like one of the more popular Gundam series to release recently.

The Gundam Base is pretty much the Gunpla builders haven, as it’s not an understatement to say that they really do have everything gunpla that exists, except of course for some of the old Gundam Front exclusives, those you can only find if you’re willing to break to bank at Auction, though of course there are Gundam Base exclusives as well. They had signs up all over the place asking people to please not buy these just to sell them online… I doubt that it will deter some of the tourists…

How can you not want a Unicorn Gundam Perfectibility, what ever the heck that means at least.

A good portion of the display areas are all about Witch From Mercury though, and with the second cour just starting back up last week, it makes sense to promote the new series. I don’t seem to recall any of the previous series like Iron Blooded Orphans or Reconguista in G having this kind of push.

With the rate that this show is picking up steam, the 1:1 unicorn might turn into a 1:1 Aerial sooner rather than later. Gundam Base still does offer tons for the Gundam fans though, not only displays, all the gunpla on the planet, it also has its own painting lab for custom builds and a very high end clothing shop. There was a rather awesome looking jacket that I would not have minding having, but it was roughly $375… so if your in the market for expensive gundam clothes, this is the spot.

It would be cool to see all the 1:1s, the 3 in Japan are pretty doable, and the walking RX-78 would definitely be a sight to see, and well a 1:1 Freedom is my kinda jazz, Shanghai ain’t.

That wraps up today’s posts with a few days left in the trip still to come, they will probably be pretty busy, though exciting days!
